Defying the FHFA, Fannie & Freddie

Although few would associate conservative Palm Desert, California with the term municipal rebel, it may fit with regard to energy efficiency finance. Palm Desert has decided to take on the big boys at the FHFA over its innovative PACE program for financing on-site energy production systems like rooftop solar through its bond program. Can they win?

A Wake for PACE? Not So Fast…

A little-known but important financing program called Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) may be in danger of being discontinued. That would indeed be unfortunate, as it seemed to be the most promising (functional), locally-based, green-energy program available for home and apartment building retrofits.

San Francisco to Launch GreenFinanceSF

Further enhancing its green reputation, on March 2, 2010, San Francisco will launch GreenFinanceSF (GFSF), a property-assessed clean energy (PACE) program. It is expected to help upgrade a major portion of the City’s building stock. The GreenFinanceSF program was developed to finance these private residential and commercial property building upgrades when targeted for energy efficiency, water efficiency and renewable energy systems.
